Sclerotherapy is a popular method for eliminating superficial telangiectasias (“spider veins”) or varicose veins with a solution, called a sclerosing agent (fibrovein). Fibrovein is injected into the vein and irritates the lining of the blood vessel, causing it to collapse and the blood to clot. The blood vessel will then fade from view as the area heals.

Prior to treatment you will need to see one of our clinicians for a free of charge consultation to determine the treatment is suitable for you and the results you can expect. After treatment you will need to wear compression stockings, our clinician will advise on the type you need and the duration to wear them for.

This treatment tends to be more popular in the winter months, where your legs are hidden while healing and to allow you to wear the compression stockings comfortably.
The number of treatment needed to clear or improve the condition differs from patient to patient, depending on the extent of spider veins present. In practice, most patients require between 2 and 6 treatments at 4 to 8 week intervals. The average appointment length is 15-30 minutes.
